Courtney Kania Young: Week 1

Ivy's First Week!

Ivy's first week of life was an exciting one! Because Ivy and I were doing so well after she was born, we were discharged from the hospital 24 hours early! I was in a lot of pain and had a lot of stitches, but the Doctors said that I would be healing the same at home or at the hospital so it was up to me if I wanted to be discharged early. That was a definite "YES send me home!" answer because my back hurt from that darn bed and poor Matt was sleeping on a pull out sofa that didn't really have cushions. I knew I would rather recover at home where Matt was comfortable and we could start adjusting to our new lives together.

Little did I know that once the numbing and medicine wore off I would be a vegetable. I was in so much pain that I only woke to feed Ivy then Matt took care of her the rest of the time. I only got out of bed twice in her first week at home.. to take her to her first Dr. visit and on Labor Day. The healing process is sooooo much worse than labor! My version of the baby blues was crying because I was so helpless all the time. Not only was healing really hard for me, but breastfeeding made it even worse because breastfeeding HURTS at first and Ivy and i were still learning how to do it!

The night we came home from the hospital, my parents met us at the house so my dad could meet Ivy. My dad was out of town the day she was born, but we were lucky that he got to see her when she was just over 24 hours old! Ivy watched her first Ohio State Football game! Yay the buckeyes won! Ivy also met Cherish, our wedding photographer, who snapped a few shots of her at a few days old! On Labor Day Ivy got to meet all of the cousins and had her first cookout!
